Archbishop Fulton Sheen is approaching beatification. Ordained a priest for the Diocese of Peoria in 1919, he later served as an auxiliary bishop in New York and as the bishop of Rochester. He received the honorary title of archbishop following his retirement in 1969.

Sheen gained international recognition for using radio and television to spread Catholic teachings. He hosted the weekly radio program The Catholic Hour on NBC starting in 1930 and launched the television series Life is Worth Living in 1952, for which he won an Emmy for Most Outstanding Television Personality. He also authored more than 60 books, including Life of Christ.

Sheen died of heart disease in New York in 1979 at age 84. His tomb is located in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the the Immaculate Conception in Peoria.
