Local groups reflect on Bishop Fulton Sheen beatification
First source report
Pilgrims from the Diocese of Columbus traveled to St. Louis in September to attend the beatification of Fulton J. Sheen. The Church beatified the former Diocese of Peoria bishop on Sept. 24, moving him one step closer to sainthood.
Father Jonathon Wilson, pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westerville, led a group of 24 pilgrims from various parishes to the event. Father Thomas Gardner, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church in Newark, also led a group of 10 pilgrims from his parish.
The beatification Mass drew nearly 50,000 pilgrims from across the United States. The Congregation for the Causes of Saints opened the cause for Sheen's sainthood in 2002.
