Allan Smith publishes book on Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Allan Smith published a book titled America’s Apostle on Sept. 15 to examine the life and legacy of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. Smith, who serves as the founder and director of the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Mission Society of Canada, released the work through EWTN Publishing and Sophia Institute Press.

The book arrives ahead of the scheduled beatification of Sheen on Sept. 24. Matthew Bunson, Vice President and Editorial Director of EWTN News, told EWTN News Nightly that the title reflects how Sheen acted as an apostle to the American people by using various communication tools to proclaim Jesus Christ.

Sheen began his media career as a priest hosting the radio program The Catholic Hour in 1930. After becoming an auxiliary bishop in New York in 1951, he transitioned to television with the program Life Is Worth Living. At his peak, his radio show reached approximately 4 million people weekly, while his television program reached about 30 million people.
