Pope Leo XIV to visit France

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit France from September 25 to 28, 2026, traveling to Paris, Saint-Denis, Lourdes, and Metz. The trip includes a visit to the UNESCO headquarters, where the pope will deliver an address regarding artificial intelligence, youth, peace, and interreligious dialogue.

The Vatican press office has identified artificial intelligence, peace, and poverty as themes for the visit. During his time in France, the pope will participate in several major events, including a vigil at the Stade de France and a mass at the Concorde.

The visit comes during a period of changing trends for the Church in France. While priestly ordinations have decreased from 122 to 84 over the last four years, the country has seen a significant rise in adult baptisms. At this year's Easter Vigil, approximately 21,000 adults and adolescents were baptized, compared to 5,800 four years ago.

The trip marks the pope's fifth international journey since beginning his papacy. His visit to UNESCO precedes the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the organization.
