Pope Leo XIV proclaims Jubilee Year of Saint Francis

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV proclaimed a Jubilee Year of Saint Francis to mark the 800th anniversary of the saint's death. The Jubilee ran from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027.

The Church observes this period following the death of St. Francis of Assisi on October 3, 1226. The saint's life included a conversion experience after being taken prisoner during a war between Italian cities, leading him to rebuild the ruined church of San Damiano. This experience eventually inspired the founding of the Franciscan Order and the Poor Clare Order, established by St. Clare.
