Pope Leo XIV to visit France

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace on September 25, 2026. During the meeting, Macron distinguished French secularism from the denial of religion, noting that the separation of Church and State established over 120 years ago allows citizens the freedom to believe or not believe in both private and public life. Macron stated that the country continues to protect places of worship against increasing intolerance toward Christians, Jews, and Muslims.

The President also addressed the development of artificial intelligence, echoing the Pope's encyclical *Magnificat Humanitas*. Macron argued that technology should serve humanity rather than rule it, warning of the need to protect children from the influence of algorithms and screens.

The Pope's visit to France includes scheduled stops in Paris, UNESCO, Lourdes, and Metz. The Diocese of Avignon announced that the theme for this apostolic journey is taken from the Gospel of John, specifically the phrase regarding receiving life in abundance.
