First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV warned members of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on September 24 that artificial intelligence can be used for discrimination and manipulation. During an audience in the Clementine Hall, the Pope stated that as the power to transform the world grows, people must increase their ability to discern what truly serves human dignity.

The Pope also highlighted the environmental impact of technological growth, noting that artificial intelligence requires massive amounts of energy and water. He urged for greater responsibility in the face of climate change and requested that scientific and technological progress be matched by an equivalent level of responsibility.
