First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV left the Vatican at approximately 13:00 on October 13 to undergo surgery at the Gemelli hospital in Rome. The Holy See Press Office confirmed his arrival at the facility, where he was met by officials and observers.

A surgical team led by Stefan Margaritory will perform the procedure under general anesthesia. The operation involves removing an early-stage lung nodule and examining nearby lymph nodes for cancer cells.

The final diagnosis and any subsequent treatment plans will depend on the results of a histopathological examination of the removed tissue.
