Léon XIV : son chirurgien rassure sur son rétablissement

Pope Leo XIV may proceed with his scheduled trip to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru from November 6 to 17, according to his surgeon. Professor Stefano Margaritora, head of thoracic surgery at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, stated there is currently no medical reason to cancel the demanding journey following the pope's recent surgery.

The pope underwent surgery on October 13 to remove the lower lobe of his right lung after doctors discovered an adenocarcinoma. Professor Margaritora reported that the procedure was completed without complications and that the pope's clinical condition was satisfactory upon his discharge, noting normal blood tests, good heart function, and expected lung tissue recovery.

While the pope requires approximately ten days to fully regain his physical strength, the surgeon believes the trip remains medically possible despite the long flights and frequent travel. A final decision regarding the travel plans will depend on how the pope's recovery progresses as the departure date approaches.
