Médicos falam da cirurgia e tratamento do Papa Leão XIV

Doctors have shared details regarding the surgery and treatment plan for Pope Leo XIV following his diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma. The Vatican reported that the Pope has undergone procedures showing a regular recovery after the operation.

During the thoracic surgery, doctors removed the lower lobe of the Pope's lung to ensure an adequate margin around the cancer. Oncologist and researcher Marcelo Corassa noted that because the diagnosis was highly suspected, doctors proceeded directly to surgery rather than performing a biopsy first.

Medical specialists stated that the next steps for treatment depend on detailed exam results. Dr. Corassa and Ricardo Terra indicated that if the cancer is found in the lymph nodes, the Pope may require complementary treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy.
