Cardinal Pietro Parolin told world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 24 that a two-state solution is the only viable and equitable way to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East. Speaking at high-level meetings in New York, the Vatican Secretary of State said the solution must be based on secure and internationally recognized borders.

Parolin stated that current efforts to consolidate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip remain insufficient. He expressed deep concern regarding recent decisions to expand and establish new Israeli settlements and condemned violence against Christian communities.

During his address, Parolin also called for limits on the rapid development of artificial intelligence. He further urged for international cooperation and justice to address the damages caused by climate change.
