Cardinal Parolin inaugurates conference on Vatican and 20th-century totalitarian regimes

First source report

Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin warned that while historical totalitarian regimes have been defeated, the temptation to act like God remains. Speaking at the Pontifical Gregorian University on October 28, Parolin noted that some still seek to control how humanity lives and thinks or to impose specific ideological convictions.

Parolin delivered his opening address at an international academic conference titled "The Holy See and Totalitarian Systems in the 20th Century: New Perspectives and Research Approaches." He aligned his remarks with those of Pope Leo XIV, noting the ongoing tendency to place human beings in the position of God. The conference is scheduled to conclude on October 29.
