Pope Leo XIV delivers catechesis on human activity

Pope Leo XIV delivered a catechesis on the value of human activity and social progress during a general audience on Wednesday, September 23. Speaking in St. Peter's Square, the Pope continued his study of the Second Vatican Council's pastoral constitution, Gaudium et spes.

The Pope addressed the meaning of technical, social, and scientific progress, noting that humans act as agents of progress because they are created in the image and likeness of God. He explained that people use freedom and intelligence to increase knowledge and advance society, which has led to improved living conditions across generations.

Pope Leo XIV stated that Christians should not view earthly activities as being in opposition to God's plan. He said that people can live out their vocation fully by performing everyday work well and dedicating it to God.
