Pope Leo XIV addressed approximately 25,000 people during a general audience at St. Peter's Square on Wednesday, September 23. During his catechesis, the Pope discussed the role of humans in building the world through science, work, and development.

Drawing on the Second Vatican Council document Gaudium et Spes, Pope Leo XIV stated that true progress must improve lives and be guided by charity. He noted that human intelligence and freedom allow people to expand knowledge and improve living conditions. The Pope rejected the idea that God and humanity are in opposition, suggesting instead that studying, researching, and transforming the world can fulfill human vocation. He explained that faith provides a deeper meaning to daily activities rather than requiring people to abandon their reality.

The Pope said God entrusted creation to humans as a reality that must be managed with responsibility. He emphasized that technological and scientific progress must be guided by love.
