Pope Leo XIV underwent successful lung surgery at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital on Tuesday, October 13. A thoracic surgery team led by Professor Stefano Margaritora removed a well-defined nodule from the pope's lung.

The Holy See Press Office reported that the procedure went according to plan and the pope has returned to his hospital room. The pope previously announced the planned surgery on Sunday and asked the faithful for their prayers.

The pope is expected to remain at the hospital for approximately one week. The Holy See Press Office has not released details regarding the nature of the removed nodule and stated it will provide further updates on his condition.
