Vatican Journey to France

Pope Leo XIV arrives in Paris

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV arrived in Paris on September 25 to begin a four-day apostolic journey to France. After his plane landed, the pope visited the Élysée Palace to meet with President Emmanuel Macron.

During his first public address of the trip at the presidential residence, the pope urged French leaders to protect the right to life. He spoke against assisted dying, abortion, and surrogacy, stating that protecting human life is the necessary foundation for all other human rights. He also expressed concern regarding genetic manipulation, the trade in human organs, and the use of science and technology for profit-driven ventures that promote arranging one's own death.

The visit, which runs through September 28, includes travel from the capital to the Marian shrine of Lourdes in the south.
