Pope Leo XIV meets with French bishops in Lourdes

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV met privately with members of the French Episcopal Conference at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes on Sunday, September 27. During the meeting at the Santa Bernadette auditorium, the Pope encouraged bishops to be a courageous and free voice in public debate.

He described the current state of the West as facing polarization, declining social quality, increased violence, inequality, and poverty. He urged the bishops to act as a prophetic voice and to support the spiritual lives of families. Regarding the issue of clergy abuse of minors, he exhorted the Church to continue seeking truth, justice, forgiveness, reparation, and prevention.

The Pope told the bishops to remain creative in their missions and not to be discouraged by past errors or inconsistencies. He called on them to recognize mistakes with a love for the truth and to address wounds with charity.
