Pope Leo XIV receives Melkite Greek Catholic Church Synod

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV met with the Synod of Bishops of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Antioch on October 10, 2026. During the audience, the Pope expressed solidarity with Melkite faithful facing war, religious extremism, and economic hardship in their traditional lands and throughout the diaspora.

The Pope urged the bishops to prioritize pastoral care over personal success, power, or profit. He described the Melkite Church as a seed of communion in lands scarred by violence and encouraged the clergy to serve as witnesses of peace and reconciliation.

To support Christian families, the Pope offered scholarships for children and young people. The meeting included 37 Melkite bishops gathered to discuss the most important matters facing their communities.
